I’m Valerie Darlington, a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been working in the counseling field since 2014. My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that people are capable of meaningful change, even when the patterns they’re struggling with have been present for years.

I work with adults experiencing Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), emotional intensity, anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, and the effects of narcissistic abuse. I’m especially passionate about helping people better understand themselves, regulate difficult emotions, build confidence, strengthen their sense of self, and create healthier patterns in their lives and relationships.

Before opening my private practice, I spent 14 years working as a high school special education teacher while simultaneously working as a licensed counselor in the evenings and weekends beginning in 2014. I started my counseling career in a high school setting and later transitioned into private practice, where I discovered that this was the area of work I felt most passionate about. That experience ultimately led me to focus my efforts on building my own private practice and creating a space where I could do the work that feels most meaningful to me.

My goal is to provide a space where you can be honest about what you’re experiencing without feeling judged or misunderstood. Therapy with me is collaborative, practical, and focused not only on understanding why certain patterns developed, but also on helping you make changes that actually improve your day-to-day life.

I created my private practice because I firmly believe that people can heal, grow, and build lives that feel more stable, fulfilling, and authentic to who they are. You are not defined by a diagnosis, your past, or the patterns you’ve developed to cope with difficult experiences. With greater self-understanding, the right support, and a willingness to work toward change, meaningful progress is possible.
